You’re above Santana on Madeira’s north coast: greener, cooler, and quieter than the south, with Funchal about 35 minutes when you want the city.
Along the driveway there’s an herb garden where you can pick and cook with home-grown herbs — rosemary, mint, lemongrass, and more.

How far is the airport?
Cristiano Ronaldo Airport (FNC) is about 30–45 minutes by car, depending on traffic. A rental car or a pre-booked transfer is the straightforward way to the house.
Do I need a car?
Highly recommended. Casa Keam sits on a hillside above Santana. Buses reach the village, but the levada trailheads, Pico Ruivo, and evening meals are much easier with a car. Parking and an EV charger are at the house. A Tesla Model Y Performance on the property can be hired as a personal shuttle — write casakeam@gmail.com to inquire.

PR1.1 starts across the street from the house — see our PR1.1 guide. PR9 Levada do Caldeirão Verde is a short drive to Queimadas — a moderate walk through tunnels to the waterfall (day-trip notes).
